Finish in the top six.

That was the goal for 23 Owensville Kids Wrestling Club (OKWC) grapplers Saturday during the Missouri USA District 7 Wrestling Tournament held at Owensville High School.

By the time the final match concluded, 18 OKWC wrestlers punched their tickets to Cape Girardeau this Saturday and the Missouri USA Region D Tournament at Cape Central Junior High School.

Of the 18 qualifiers, Owensville had one district champion in Landon Kramme.

As the lone wrestler in the 14U 175-pound bracket, Kramme just had to make weight prior to the tournament in order to advance.

Four additional regional qualifiers earned silver medals for their second-place finishes on their home mats.

William Coppedge earned second place in the 10U 110-pound bracket by winning an 11-0 major decision over Mark Barnett (Southern Boone) before being pinned in the championship match in :41 by Kohen Waite (Palmyra).

Fellow 10-year-old OKWC grappler Conner Henderson also placed second in the 10U 120-pound bracket.

Matched up against Fulton’s Trynton Atterberry in a best two-out-of-three format, Henderson was pinned in both matches in 4:04 and 2:33 to settle for a silver medal.

Bo Buddemeyer became the first 12U OKWC regional qualifier with his second-place finish in the 12U 85-pound bracket.

Pinning Daelyn Dorman (Eldon) in :59 and Owen Carter (Jefferson City) in 2:36, Buddemeyer earned a spot in the championship match opposite Aidan McMurty (BullTrained Wrestling).

Losing a 12-5 decision in the title match, Buddemeyer settled for a second-place medal while still qualifying for regionals.

Grabbing OKWC’s final second-place medal was Kasen Owens in the 14U 165-pound bracket.

With only three wrestlers in his bracket, Owens had just two matches.

Pinned by Conner Willis (Comet Wrestling) in :28, Owens came back to pin Molly Mitchell (Jefferson City) in :41 to claim a silver medal for his second-place finish.

Seeing his younger brother place second in his bracket, Steven Buddemeyer looked to join Bo at regionals.

Pinning Mason Bock (Comet Wrestling) in 1:28, Steven assured himself of a spot at regionals advancing to the semifinals of the 14U 110-pound bracket.

Losing a 7-6 ultimate tiebreaker decision in the semifinals to Drake Brinkley (Hannibal), the elder Buddemeyer looked to win his way to a third-place medal.

Pinning Ethan Kirt (Combative Sports) in :46, Steven went on to win a 4-2 overtime decision over Jacob Canaday to place third in his bracket.

Four fourth-place medals also stayed in town following district tournament wrestling Saturday.

Augustus Branson quickly clinched his spot at regionals winning an 11-3 major decision in his quarterfinal match over Forrest Wagaman in the 8U 100-pound bracket.

Pinned in :23 by Colton Baysinger (Fulton) during his semifinal match, Branson now turned his focus to the third-place bout.

Winning a 5-4 decision over OKWC teammate Jase Schulte, Branson advanced to the third-place match where he was pinned in 2:29 by Judd Abbott (Eldon) settling for fourth place.

Moving up in age, Jaxon Lowe became Owensville’s second fourth-place finisher in the 10U 100-pound bracket.

Pinning Kade Biggers (Thunderbird Wrestling) in 1:57 in the consolation semifinals, Lowe settled for fourth place after being pinned in 1:19 by Braxtyn Bickerman (Macon).

A pair of 14U wrestlers rounded out the list of OKWC fourth-place finishers.

Micah Duncan started his tournament in the 14U 95-pound bracket winning a 10-3 decision over Matthew Pfeifer (Mexico) cementing his spot at regionals.

Pinning Caden Rosentreter (Comet Wrestling) in 3:45 in the consolation semifinals, Duncan settled for fourth place after being pinned in 3:24 by Kadon Timbrook (Palmyra) in the third-place match.

Garrett Hunter was OKWC’s final fourth-place finisher in the 14U 145-pound bracket.

Drawing a bye into the semifinals, Hunter was pinned in :27 by Tyler Abell (BullTrained Wrestling).

Pinning Andrew Bell (South Callaway) in :46 advancing to the third-place match, Hunter settled for fourth place after losing an 8-1 decision to Drayden Conde (Eierman Elite).

Making up the majority of the OKWC regional qualifiers, five of them ended their respective tournaments with fifth-place medals.

Having arguably the toughest road to Cape Girardeau was Jasper Hane in the 8U 60-pound bracket.

Losing an 8-2 decision to Cooper Hirt (Combative Sports) in round two of the championship bracket, Hane now had to wrestle for his tournament life in the consolation side of the draw.

Winning four of his next five matches, Hane earned a spot to regionals while at the same time earning another shot at Hirt in the fifth-place match.

Dominating the match the second time around, Hane pinned Hirt in 1:53 giving him fifth place in the 8U 60-pound bracket.

Seeing Augustus Branson place fourth in the same bracket, Jase Schulte looked to join him in the top six and regionals out of 8U 100-pound bracket.

After losing a 5-4 decision to Branson in the consolation semifinals, Schulte bounced back with a win by fall in :23 over Wagaman (Moberly) in the fifth-place match.

Mason Turner pinned Moberly’s Kennett Roark twice in 4:26 (quarterfinals) and 4:17 (fifth-place match) to earn his spot to regionals out of the 10U 90-pound bracket.

Mallory Stockton kept the parade of OKWC 10U regional qualifiers going in the 110-pound bracket.

In spite of losing her two contested matches during the tournament, Stockton had a bye in the fifth-place match qualifying her for regionals Saturday in Cape Girardeau.

Peyton Pohlmann rounded out the list of OKWC fifth-place finishes with a road similar to that of Stockton’s.

Even with two losses in contested matches, Pohlmann drew a bye in the fifth-place match to join the OKWC contingency of wrestlers headed to Cape Girardeau.

A trio of sixth-place finishers rounded out the list of OKWC regional qualifiers.

Tucker Henderson’s win by fall in 2:25 over OKWC teammate Silas Grayson helped him grab the sixth and final qualifying spot out of the 8U 75-pound bracket in spite of a loss by fall in 2:14 to Centralia’s Garon Stowers in the fifth-place match.

Logan Quick found himself in win or go home mode during his tournament for OKWC in the 10U 80-pound bracket.

Winning an 8-3 decision over Emonda Johnson (Fulton) and pinning Makenzie Smith (South Callaway) in :40, Quick fought his way back to the fifth-place match before settling for sixth-place after losing by fall to Kingston Ferguson (Fulton) in 2:44.

Peyton Sells benefited from having only six wrestlers in the 10U 100-pound bracket during Saturday’s district tournament.

In spite of three contested losses, a bye to the consolation semifinals helped Sells place sixth in the tournament to qualify for regionals this weekend.

A handful of OKWC wrestlers that also competed in front of their home fans Saturday did not finish in the top six therefore ending their seasons.

Emmitt Duncan wrestled in the 8U 55-pound bracket losing matches to Jaxon Kinney (South Callaway) and Weston Tharp (Hannibal).

Kinney went on to place second in the bracket.

Max Branson also competed in the 8U 60-pound bracket picking up a bye to the second round of wrestlebacks before being pinned by Wright City’s Jack Dutton.

Silas Grayson wrestled in the 8U 75-pound bracket settling for seventh place after losing both matches to eventual regional qualifiers in Kaleb Loethen (Tri Cap) and Henderson (OKWC).

Alden Zabel saw his season end after two losses in the 10U 75-pound bracket for Owensville.

Karson Griffith was also scheduled to compete in the district tournament but was scratched.

Wrestling at regionals in Cape Girardeau will begin Saturday at 9 a.m., for the 8U and 10U divisions and at 2 p.m., for the 12U and 14U divisions.

A top-four finish by any OKWC wrestler will qualify them for the Missouri USA State Championships to also be held in Cape Girardeau on March 12-13.
