Stay undefeated and add to the Owensville Middle School (OMS) trophy case.

Those were the goals Saturday for Misti Rutledge’s Owensville seventh-grade volleyball Dutchgirls during the annual Steelville 7th Grade Volleyball Tournament held in central Crawford County.

Opening the tournament against Bourbon, the orange and black swept the Lady Warhawks taking both sets 25-14 and 25-8.

Owensville’s next pool match against Salem was a split decision.

Salem took the first set 25-23 while the Dutchgirls bounced back to grab the second set 25-20.

Concluding pool play against Linn, Owensville swept the Lady Wildcats winning both sets by scores of 25-8 and 25-11.

Winning Pool ‘B’ and advancing to bracket play, Owensville took on Viburnum who placed second in Pool ‘B’ in the semifinals.

Sweeping the Lady Blue Jays in two sets 25-5 and 25-9, Rutledge’s Dutchgirls advanced to the championship match against the host Lady Cardinals.

Sweeping Steelville in two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-14, Owensville claimed another piece of championship hardware to add to a crowded OMS trophy case.

Prior to the Steelville Tournament, Owensville swept St. James Friday night to stay unbeaten in regular-season matches.

Jamie Ridenhour’s eighth-grade Dutchgirls also swept St. James in two sets to stay undefeated.

Closing the February portion of their schedule last Tuesday hosting Pacific, Owensville took both the seventh and eighth-grade matches in two sets.

Rutledge’s seventh graders won both sets by identical scores of 25-10 and got multiple aces from Cambell Schulte, Ava Schulte, Shae Abernathy, Amelya Curtman and Kenzie Cooper.

Ridenhour’s eighth-graders also swept Pacific by scores of 25-15 and 25-11.

Mya Vandegriffe led Owensville with four aces.

Monday night volleyball saw Rutledge’s seventh-grade Dutchgirls nearly serve their way out of a possible undefeated season.

Missing 15 serves, Owensville was able turn back the upset-minded Bourbon Lady Warhawks with a three-set victory by scores of 25-14, 23-25 and 15-7.

Brinley Schmanke led the seventh-graders with seven kills.

Also looking to preserve their undefeated season, Ridenhour’s eighth-grade Dutchgirls swept Bourbon in two sets by scores of 25-10 and 25-11.

Cheyanne Brendel served 10 points in a row during game one before Trinity Crider served up eight consecutive points in game two helping the orange and black complete a Monday night sweep.
