Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Middle School (OMS) eighth-grade Dutchgirl volleyball team looked to bring good vibes into Owensville High School’s gym Saturday morning during their annual home tournament prior to girls quarterfinal basketball that evening between Owensville and Logan-Rogersville.
Opening orange-pool play bright and early at 7 a.m., Saturday morning, Owensville swept New Haven in two sets 25-12 and 25-14 before sweeping Washington’s Lady Blue Jays later in the morning by scores of 25-22 and 25-10.
Down 21-12 late in game one against Washington, Ridenhour’s Dutchgirls snatched that set from the jaws of defeat.
Capping the morning portion of pool play for the Dutchgirls, Owensville swept St. James 25-6 and 25-8 assuring themselves of at least a spot in the consolation championship match.
Taking on Sullivan in their final pool match, spots in the consolation and championship matches were up for grabs.
Sweeping both sets 25-9 and 25-12 against Sullivan, Owensville punched their ticket into the championship match against Pacific’s Lady Indians who also went undefeated in Black pool action with sweeps over Steelville, Hermann, St. Clair and Union.
During the championship match over at Owensville Elementary School (OES) while OHS was being set up for MSHSAA Class 4 Girls quarterfinal basketball, Ridenhour’s Dutchgirls completed a perfect run through their home tournament taking the match in two sets over Pacific 25-14 and 25-16.
Hosting Union’s Lady Wildcats last night (Tuesday), Owensville will return to action Friday afternoon on the road in Phelps County against St. James’ Lady Tigers at St. James Middle School during the annual daytime doubleheader between the two schools.
Volleyball action will start at 12:30 p.m., with the seventh-grade match.
