OMS Dutchgirls sweep Hermann in hardwood opener

After nearly a month of practice, Owensville Middle School Dutchgirl basketball teams coached by Terra Heidle and Ryan Flanagan finally got to open their seasons Monday night.

Facing Hermann’s Lady Bearcats at Owensville Elementary School, the host Dutchgirls went for Gasconade County hardwood bragging rights.

Trailing throughout most of the first half in seventh-grade action, Owensville used a 21-2 run midway through the game helping them to a 32-21 victory.

Lily Barker banked in three 3-pointers helping her score a team-high 13 points for Owensville.

Jenna Breedlove also connected on three 3-pointers of her own for nine points.

Rachel Koepke was also good for a pair of 3-pointers in the second half for six points. She also led the team with eight rebounds and five steals.

Alison Gregory hit a 3-pointer in the second half followed by Hannah Gehlert rounding out the scoring with one point.

Kealie Lane shared game-high scoring honors with Koepke netting 13 points for Hermann.

Remy Gomez added four points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds for the Lady Bearcats. Jaelee Kahler also reached double figures in rebounds with 10.

Eighth-grade action saw Owensville open the game on an 8-0 run and never look back before going on to a 49-18 victory.

Leading 11-1 after one quarter, Owensville got five points from Maddy Lewis while Hermann’s Cassie Krueger scored the lone first-quarter point for the Lady Bearcats with a free throw.

In the second quarter, Owensville outscored Hermann 20-6 to take a 31-7 halftime lead.

Lewis led OMS and all first-half scorers with eight points followed by seven each from Camryn Caldwell and Brynn Wright.

Kennedie Witthaus led Hermann with four first-half points netting those in the second quarter.

Opening the second half, the Dutchgirls were edged 9-7 by Hermann but still led 38-16 after three quarters.

Witthaus added five points in the third quarter giving her nine for the game.

Lewis scored four points in the third quarter for OMS giving her 12 for the game.

In the final six minutes, Owensville outscored Hermann 11-2 to start their season with a victory.

Scoring seven fourth-quarter points, Caldwell led Owensville with a game-high 14 points followed closely by Lewis’ 12.

Wright just missed a double double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Allison Daniels added six points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Alivia Christian shared game-high rebounding honors with Wright pulling down 10 for Hermann.
