Swept by Pacific’s Indians back on Thursday, Jan. 9, Owensville Middle School Dutchmen basketball teams coached by Taylor Payne and Shane Hunt looked to get back on the winning track hosting Hermann’s Bearcats on Monday, Jan. 13 at Owensville Elementary School.

Limiting Hermann to four first-half points, Payne’s seventh-grade Dutchmen turned a 17-4 halftime lead into a 32-20 victory.

Noah Caldwell scored seven of his team-high nine points in the first quarter to pace Owensville.

Jansen Loeb followed closely behind with eight points that included a pair of 3-point shots in the third quarter.

Ethan Ditto added seven points netting five of those in the second half.

Eli Graham chipped in four points followed by three from Noel Baguio and one on a third-quarter free throw from Brandon Graham.

Going for the sweep and Gasconade County middle school basketball bragging rights, Hunt’s eighth-grade Dutchmen took on the visiting Bearcats.

Nursing a 28-26 lead going into the fourth quarter Owensville edged Hermann 6-4 in the final six minutes to hang on for a 34-30 victory.

Tanner Meyer scored five points in each half for a team-high 10 points. Blake Elliott was close behind scoring seven of his nine points in the first half.

Layne Evans netted six points followed by five from Landon Ely and four markers from Garrett Crosby.

Last Wednesday at St. James Middle School, the host Tigers and visiting Dutchmen made up their daytime doubleheader that was canceled due to inclement weather back in mid-December.

Unable to overcome eight points in the first half, Payne’s seventh-graders fell 40-27 to St. James.

Loeb led the Dutchmen against the Tigers with nine points.

Leading momentarily in the fourth quarter, Hunt’s eighth-graders came up on the short end of a 53-48 final score.

Crosby had a team-high nine points. OMS will get another shot at St. James tomorrow (Thursday) at OES starting at 5:30 p.m.
