OMS tracksters claim team plaques on home track

Defend the home track.

That was the goal Thursday for Matt Candrl’s Owensville Middle School (OMS) track teams during the annual OMS Relays at Dutchmen Field.

Placing second or higher in six events, OMS’ Dutchmen finished second in the team standings with 116 points behind Washington’s 170.5 points.

Starting events on the track, the OMS Dutchmen 4x800m relay team of Zach Holtmeyer, Braden Perkins, Colton Echols and Westin Kramme placed third in a time of 10:04.71.

Charlie Katsov (2nd, 17.32) and Ryan Evans (4th, 18.12) scored team points for the Dutchmen in the 100m hurdles.

Taking second in the boys 4x200m relay was the Dutchmen foursome of Cael Walker, Chase Crosby, Brady Watson and Cody Lenauer in a time of 1:45.98.

Holtmeyer placed second in the boys 1600m with a time of 5:05.15 while Chris Reyes took eighth in 5:51.60.

Crosby won the boys 400m dash in a time of 57.67. Broden Kelley (6th, 1:00.95) and Keigan Glaser (7th, 1:01.64) also scored Dutchmen team points in the event.

Sprinting to a third-place time of 51.07 in the boys 4x100m relay was the Dutchmen foursome of Brenner Thompson, Walker, Watson and Lenauer.

Looking to bounce back in the 800m run, Holtmeyer posted another second-place time of 2:25.10 followed by Echols with a seventh-place time of 2:31.95.

Nearly breaking four minutes in the boys 4x400m relay, the Dutchmen team of Crosby, Kelley, Glaser and Lenauer posted a winning time of 4:00.63.

Lenauer (2nd, 1.60m) and Watson 3rd, 1.55m) picked up Dutchmen team points in the boys high jump.

Evans also cleared 2.15m to place seventh in the boys pole vault.

Thompson posted a fifth-place finish of 4.74m.

Broden Kelley collected the final medal in the boys triple jump with a sixth-place leap of 9.51m.

Zayden Garver threw his way to a medal with a fifth-place toss of 29.17m in the boys discus.

Bouncing back from tough showings in the sprint events, Cael Walker threw his way to a medal recording a fifth-place toss of 10.56m.

In a non-team scoring event, the Dutchmen team of Kien Bayless, Aiden Carpenter, Ryder Wehmeyer and Evans posted a second-place time of 56.54.

Winning or placing second in five events, OMS’ Dutchgirls racked up 91 team points placing third in the standings behind Union (100) and Washington (115).

Starting on the track with the girls 4x800m relay, the Dutchgirl team of Alyvia Wilson, Arianna Robson, Myla Lauth and Madalyn Pigg placed seventh in 13:03.63.

Cameron Ryerson scored team points with a seventh-place time of 20.45 in the girls 100m dash.

Avery Goodman sprinted her way to gold with a first-place time of 13.76 in the girls 100m dash.

Taking silver with a second-place time of 2:01.68 in the girls 4x200m relay was the Dutchgirl squad of Payton Busenhart, Makenzi Carpenter, Lily Sample and Goodman.

In a non-scoring event, the Dutchgirl team of Delyla Crowe, Rylee Dare, Lainey Moss and Ryerson placed fifth in 1:08.04.

Sprinting to another silver medal in the girls 4x100m relay in a time of 57.07 was the Dutchgirl quartet of Abbey Quilacio, Wilson, Sample and Carpenter.

Goodman (3rd, 29.45), Carpenter (4th, 30.08) and Sample (6th, 30.31) earned medals for the Dutchgirls in the girls 200m dash.

Owensville grabbed the final scoring spot in the girls 4x400m relay with an eighth-place time of 5:33.12 by the team of Tristyn Weirich, Robson, Lauth and Pigg.

Carpenter cleared 1.20m in the girls high jump placing eighth for a Dutchgirl team point.

Quilacio finished in a three-way tie for third clearing 1.85m in the girls pole vault.

Adding to her win in the 100m dash, Goodman claimed the top spot in the girls long jump with a leap of 4.60m.

Sample (4th, 4.13m) and Reece Hampton (8th, 3.93m) also scored Dutchgirl team points in the girls long jump.

Dare threw her way to gold in the girls discus with a toss of 24.81m.

Moss took third place in the girls shot put with a mark of 9.32m followed closely by Dare in fourth with a toss of 9.30m.

OMS Track and Field competed last night (Tuesday) at the Hermann Middle School Invitational and will also participate on Tuesday, April 25 in a quad track meet at Washington High School starting at 4 p.m.
