Owensville firemen flow water Monday to begin the attack on a garage fire in the alley behind a residence in the 1700 block of Southridge Lane. A golf cart, along with lawn equipment stored in the shed, was destroyed in the fire caused by the apparent careless use of charcoal by young adults as a heat source, according to local fire officials. The discarded coals were found attached to a melted plastic container. The fire was ruled accidental. Owensville's volunteers were toned out Saturday evening for a reported structure fire on South Third at trailer lot No. 19. A newly installed stove was cited as the cause of the problem but no fire damage was evident, said Assistant Chief Jeff Arnold.

As firemen were wrapping up their work on Southridge on Monday, a resident on the south end of South Cuba Street reported a contained flue fire in his two-story home. Assistant Chief Jeff Arnold said the homeowner had already cleaned out the fire box. Firemen helped ventilate the residence but did not need to go up onto the roof.
