Owensville Garden Club marks 70th year

Posted

Established Oct. 13, 1950, the Owensville Garden Club recently held a 70th anniversary — delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the 32 members gathered (above) wearing fascinator hats they made for their October Guest Tea. The club has made many contributions to the community during their 70 years including establishment of the Blue Star Highway Memorial planting area on Second Street at the Highway 28 intersection. Members have also mulched and cared for the Gasconade County Historical Society museum’s grounds, helped in beautifying downtown through the “Adopt a Pot” planter program, made Christmas wreaths for nursing home residents and delivering to them arrangements each month.  They also assist Gasconade County Head Start students in planting a flower for their mothers on Mother’s Day. Most club meetings are held at 1 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month in First State Community Bank’s meeting room. Guests are welcome and membership is open to all those who appreciate flowers and wish to learn more about their care.
