Owensville P&R Department updates closures to include park pavilions

Posted

After announcing Friday the closing of  Owensville parks facilities including the city’s public golf course, additional closures were announced Tuesday.

According to Angela Lairmore, director of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, pavilions are now closed but the golf course will be open again but with restrictions.

Lairmore issued a press release Friday and updated it early Tuesday afternoon. The decision to close athletic courts and playgrounds was made “based on guidelines provided by Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Gasconade County Health Department” and were in effect as of Saturday.

Parks Department staff placed signs up at each of the city’s four parks announcing the closures early Friday afternoon.

These closures are in effect until at least April 16 and Lairmore’s release Tuesday stated they “may be adjusted as necessary.”

Updates were made to closures on March 31, she noted. Closures now include pavilions, playgrounds, fitness equipment, water fountains, and  the basketball, tennis and racquetball courts. “While the listed areas are closed, the parks and trails are still open to the public,” her release stated. “During this time period, the golf course will operate under modified operations” and provided a list of precautions:

• No more than one person may ride in a golf cart that is not residing in the same household, while adding “walking is encouraged.”

• Flags and pins are not to be removed at any time during play. If ball hits flag during a putt, it will be considered in the hole.

• No more than six (6) individuals may play as a group.

• No sharing equipment.

• Restrooms will remain closed.

• Limited access to clubhouse. Staff will meet golfers outside to collect payment.

Lairmore also offered the following suggestions while using the parks, trails and golf course:

• Practice proper social distancing with a minimum of 6 feet from other persons at all times;

• Share the trail and warn other trail users of presence and passing;

• Bring your own hand sanitizer and water; and,

• Practice good hygiene and do not use parks, trails or golf course if you are not feeling well or exhibiting symptoms.
