That’s one way someone could describe Owensville Dutchgirl soccer’s run to the championship of the inaugural Owensville Varsity Girl’s Soccer Tournament.

Dispatching St. James 9-1 and shutting out Sullivan 3-0, Jordan Palmer’s Dutchgirls faced off with Wright City’s Lady Wildcats Saturday morning with the tournament championship on the line.

Scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match, OHS had the offense they needed before going on to an 11-1 mercy rule victory over Wright City.

Nearly eight minutes into the title match, Destinee Busenhart found herself in the right place at the right time.

Taking a deflection near the goal, she pushed past the goalie giving the Dutchgirls a quick 1-0 lead with 32:02 until halftime.

Nearly three minutes later, Madison Steever fed Busenhart leading to her second goal of the game and a 2-0 lead with under 30 minutes for the first half.

Just before the midway point of the half, Katelyn Landolt gathered a rebound and put it past the Lady Wildcat keeper for a 3-0 Dutchgirl lead with 21:46 until halftime.

Over nine minutes later, another hat trick was witnessed at Dutchmen Field.

Busenhart netted her third goal of the game on an assist from Erika Lauer for a 4-0 Owensville lead at the 11:14 mark of the half.

Assisting on the previous goal, Lauer found the back the of the net on an assist from Landolt capping the first half scoring for the Dutchgirls who led 5-0 at halftime.

Wasting no time adding to their lead, Busenhart scored her fourth goal on a breakaway giving OHS a 6-0 lead with 35:39 remaining.

Just over a minute later, Alexis Altemeyer’s hopes for a second shutout in as many matches were dashed when Wright City got on the board with a goal at the 34:25 mark of the second half cutting the Dutchgirl lead to 6-1.

Four more goals from Busenhart and another from Lauer eventually helped Owensville to an 11-1 mercy rule victory when the match ended with 5:05 remaining.

Earlier in the tournament, Busenhart scored all three goals in Owensville’s 3-0 shutout of Sullivan while Altemeyer stopped every shot she faced for a clean sheet.

In the tournament opener last Wednesday night, Owensville took on St. James’ Lady Tigers.

Battling to a 2-0 halftime lead, Palmer’s Dutchgirls exploded for seven second-half goals to hand the visiting Lady Tigers a 9-1 loss in the tournament opener for both teams.

Busenhart netted six goals while freshman Anna Finley also delivered a hat trick with three goals.

Steever and Landolt also each had an assist for Owensville against St. James.

OHS will end the regular season Monday at home against St. James.
