Now in his second year in charge of the Pacific Indian football program, former Owensville High School head football coach Paul Day will mark his return to the Dutchmen Field sidelines Friday night for the first time since a 44-6 victory over Sullivan back in the fall of 1997.

“I am very excited to come back to Owensville,” Day said. “The people of Owensville were so great to us when we were there. I still talk with many of the players I was able to coach.”

With this week marking homecoming at Dutchmen Field, it is only fitting that the head coach of the opposing team once roamed the sidelines in orange and black.

“I know my wife and daughter (and her family) are coming to the game and can’t wait to see the Dutchmen game atmosphere again,” Day said.

Going up against a tough running team in Hermann last Friday night, Cabot’s Dutchmen will face another tough test from Pacific’s running game.

Indian senior running back Makai Parton currently leads the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) in rushing yards with 792 yards rushing on 87 carries and 11 touchdowns good for 9.1 yards per carry.

Parton has also ran in three two-point conversion attempts giving him an FRC-leading 72 points.

Right behind Parton in the FRC rushing race is Dutchmen senior quarterback Brendan Decker with 431 yards rushing on 54 carries and five touchdowns.

Pacific quarterback Luke Meyer is a dual threat to pass or throw the ball entering week six action with 479 passing yards and 420 rushing yards.

Meyer’s leading receiving target is Ethan Hall who has 18 catches for 332 yards through the air in addition to three touchdowns.

Second in the FRC in passing to Union’s Liam Hughes, Decker has the fortune of having the top two receivers in the FRC as targets.

Derek Brandt leads the FRC with 469 yards receiving on 21 catches to go with Bryce Payne’s 350 yards receiving on 13 catches.

Owensville enters the October portion of the season with a 4-1 overall mark with victories over Potosi, Eldon, Cuba and St. James to go with their lone loss to Hermann.

Pacific comes in at 2-3 with victories over Borgia and St. Clair along losses to Washington, Union and Sullivan.

With OHS averaging over 40 points a game and Pacific putting up 30 points per contest, Ernie (Don) Fuchs could have a busy night putting points on the scoreboard at Dutchmen Field.

Before kickoff at 7 p.m., Owensville High School alumni will be able to reconnect through tail-greating activities beginning at 4:30 p.m., on the OHS parking lot.

Coronation of the 2021 Fall Homecoming Court will take place at around 6:30 p.m.
