Perfect weather greets Fourth of July celebrants

Low humidity and mild mid-80-degree weather ushered in the Independence Day holiday weekend across southern Gasconade County and the mid-Missouri region. The Owensville Fire Department’s Firemen’s Picnic returned to regularly scheduled activities following cancellations of several events last summer due to the threat of the coronavirus pandemic. The Knights of Columbus hosted the family favorite turtle races once again. Firemen staged competitions in the children’s tractor pulling events. Tickets were sold for fish sandwiches and french fries prepared by firemen and their family members in an effort to streamline the serving efforts. A good crowd was reported at Memorial Park for the fireworks display.
