Pickup truck damages Casey’s building after hopping curb Monday

Posted

Casey’s General Store became the second convenience station in Owensville this year to sustain damage by a vehicle.

According to an Owensville police report William E. Keeling, 40, Owensville, said his flip flop shoe became stuck on the gas peddle at 7:43 a.m. Aug. 15 as he pulled into a parking space off of West Jefferson Avenue. The 2005 Nissan Titan pickup truck went over the curb block and struck the building’s south side.

The impact pushed the pizza oven in the kitchen out away from the wall and into the preparation table, narrowly missing a worker who told police she was in the area at the time. No injuries were reported to Casey’s staff, Keeling, or his daughter, 14, who was a passenger in the truck.

Minor damage was reported to the truck. A contracted firm from Sedalia, Mo., Bailey Construction, had a worker on the scene Monday afternoon patching up the outside of the building. Several sections of sheet metal were visibly damaged.

The kitchen was not open on Monday due to the damage.

A similar incident took place earlier this year when a motorist accidentally drove into the front doors of the MFA Breaktime convenience store. Extensive repairs were required in that incident.

Owensville police Det. Rob Green said there was an incident several years ago where the Moto-Mart storefront was also struck by a vehicle.
