Seven Gerald Elementary students had their entries chosen to advance in the Picture the Music project sponsored by the St. Louis Symphony this year. The artwork of Hunter Boland, (left to right) Audrey Little, Wyatt Tumbrink, Astraea Alimagno, Gemma Hecht, Alexis Pierce, and Desirae Weiser was chosen to be submitted to the competition. 6,000 students from 49 schools across the bi-state area participated in the project. 150 Gerald Elementary School students submitted an entry. The pictures represent what students saw when they listened to “Symphony No. 1 in E Minor: III Juba Dance” by Florence Price. GES music teacher Colleen Clifton partnered with art teacher Jessie Bayless for the project. This year’s ceremony, featuring the top 100 entries—including 20 blue ribbon and one maestro award— will be held virtually. Information will be released later on how to view the exhibit.
