Chamois (2-0) defeated Richland 55-23 in last Tuesday’s varsity game.
“This was another great team win,” said Coach Jack Rigdon. “I thought we did a better job defensively in this game and were more focused on this end of the floor. Richland was very disciplined, taking their time on what shot they wanted to get on the offensive side, and I was proud we were able to guard for long periods of time.”
Chamois jumped to an early lead and maintained it the entire game. Armed with a 16-5 first-quarter advantage, the Pirates built the lead to 35-11 at the break.
Overall, the team shot 47.1% from the floor and 57.1% from the FT line. From the outside, Chamois went 3-19 (15.8%).
“I love that we found a way to win only shooting 16% from the three-point line,” said Rigdon. “Also, we had some other guys step up, and I think our guys are starting to understand and buy into their roles. Richland is well-coached and plays in a really good conference. We need to continue to stay humble and get better.”
Dawson Brandt led all scorers with 17 points, including two treys, with two assists, six rebounds, and five steals.
Brayden Cotton added 13 points (trey), with an assist, nine rebounds, two steals, and an incredible eight blocks.
Jaxon Wuelling rounded out double-digit scoring with 12 points to go with four assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
Caleb Keilholz put in eight points, with two assists, three rebounds, and a steal.
Also scoring were Kaden Wuelling (4) and Max McKague (1). Each grabbed two rebounds, with the former posting four assists. J. Wuelling also had three steals.
