Postponed 5K Run rescheduled for Oct. 10

The Gerald Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the ninth annual Rock Island Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 10. The 5K event kicks off at the Historic Rock Island Railroad Depot located in the Legion Park(420 W. Fitzgerald Ave.) in Gerald.

There will also be an optional one-mile route for children nine years of age and younger.

Returning to this year’s event is the inclusion of team runners/walkers. A minimum of five people on a team is required to qualify for a team award. There can be an unlimited number of people on a team, however only the top five finishers will earn team points. The team with the lowest time score for five team members will be awarded the team trophy. Team members are also eligible for individual awards.

Trophies will be awarded in the following age groups for both male and female winner: 9 and under, 10 to 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69 and 70 and over. Medals will be given to all entrants.

Runners and walkers are welcome. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m. Pre-registration can be done at www.GetMeRegistered.com and under Search for Events enter Rock Island 5K Run/Walk. Registration for adults is $25 and for youth 14 and under $12 through Sept. 26. After that, prices increase to $30 for adults and $15 for youth.
