Potential COVID-19 exposure close to home

Posted

As your trusted news source, we must come to you today to inform you that one of our employees has tested positive for COVID-19. Our lobby will be closed in the morning, with reopening to be announced. The foyer will remain open for paper sales.

During a routine COVID screening this morning, the employee did not have an elevated temperature.  They later tested positive at Urgent Care, at this point with a fever.

We have contacted the Missouri DHSS. Due to the fact that the local health department is closed for the day, we will have more information for you tomorrow. As always, please monitor yourself for COVID-like symptoms.

COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Infected people have had a wide range of symptoms reported – from mild symptoms to severe illness.

Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
• Fever or chills
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fatigue
• Muscle or body aches
• Headache
• New loss of taste or smell
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea

Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If someone is showing any of these signs, seek emergency medical care immediately:
• Trouble breathing
• Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
• New confusion
• Inability to wake or stay awake
• Bluish lips or face

Call your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning to you.

Again, we will bring you more details as soon as we have them, no later than tomorrow morning. For the safety of our community, our lobby will be closed in the morning while we learn protocol for surface exchange of the virus. This information was not readily available when we contacted the Missouri DHSS. Our staff has already and will continue to take measures to sanitize the office.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter and hope everyone continues to stay safe and healthy.
