LINN — An Owensville man faces charges of driving while intoxicated after allegedly leading an Osage County Sheriff’s deputy on a high-speed pursuit early Monday, ending in his ejection and hospital treatment for serious injuries after he lost control and overturned the car east of Linn on U.S. 50.

Kyle L. Lampkin, 31, was arrested at 1:55 a.m. Aug. 31 by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Osage County following the crash reported at 12:24 p.m. Monday. He was transported to the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia for treatment of serious injuries.

Lampkin was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang east at a high rate of speed when he ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a sign and two trees, and then overturned. Lampkin was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report by MSHP Trooper D.H. Crafton.

A deputy first noticed the car Lampkin was driving as he turned into a gas station which was closed.

Osage Sheriff’s Cpl. Ricky Jarvis observed a westbound vehicle turn left onto Route CC on the east end of Linn, and then into the Eagle Stop convenience store, without using blinker during either turn.

“He immediately left the gas station, probably because it was closed,” said Jarvis, who followed the suspect, who continued to travel west.

Jarvis ran the plate, which came back to a Chevy and Lampkin was driving a Ford Mustang. The muffler was dragging, causing sparks, at which time, Jarvis initiated a traffic stop.

Lampkin pulled into Break Time, at which time an unidentified woman exited the vehicle. She was not found by authorities, and the sheriff’s office is still trying to identify her.

Jarvis said Lampkin turned back to the east and fled at more than 100 miles per hour before losing control near Highway 89 North. He crashed and was ejected from the vehicle.

Lampkin was arrested and transported by ambulance to University Hospital with serious injuries.

He was issued a summons to appear in court on allegations of driving while intoxicated on alcohol. The Osage County Sheriff’s Office is pursuing charges for felony resisting arrest and drug possession, according to authorities there.
