The Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education on Monday night approved $751,854.15 worth of capital improvement project bids throughout the district to be completed over the summer months.

Superintendent Dr. Chuck Garner said he was pleased with the bids the district received.

“The asphalt road in front of the middle school needs to be replaced, it is not repairable,” Garner began. “Jahnsen Brothers Construction came in far below everyone else with a concrete bid (instead of asphalt).”

Jahnsen Brothers Construction bid for $87,883 was approved with a 6-0 vote. Bidding against them were MDC for $147,300 and Meier for $118,900.

The board also received eight bids for the sports complex lighting located on the district campus in Owensville.

Meyer Electric in Jefferson City was approved to complete the work, not to exceed $222,000, with a 6-0 vote.

“Meyer Electric was the low bid,” Garner said, adding, “The bid was quite a bit lower than the bid we received a couple of years ago because the price of LED bulbs has gone down.”

The other bidders included 5B Electric for $244,390; All Purpose Erectors for $240,000; Aschinger Electric for $434,193; Cor Solar & Electric for $346,688; Reinhold Electric (Musco Lighting) for $259,300; Reinhold Electric (Sportsbeam Lighting) for $279,047; and Techline Sports Lighting for $247,900.

The Gerald Elementary School roof bid from Patke was approved with a 6-0 vote for $92,160. Patke bid against Karr at $146,662 and MTS at $191,059.

“We want to keep on that five year rotation schedule to replace roofs before they go out of warranty,” Garner reminded the board.

The remaining bids approved with a 6-0 vote included the Konica Minolta copier for a 60 month contract at $202,326.15; tuck and seal point repair throughout the district at $92,160; OES concrete repair at $9,720 from Jansen Brothers Construction; gym floor recoat at $7,154 from Malone (two coats); Gerald BAC for $8,226 from Taycon-TMI; asphalt/seal/repair/restripe at OMS for $13,575 from HotShot; the purchase of a new commercial zero turn mower for $12,950 from Rosebud Tractor; and OHS fascia replacement for $3,700 from Jahnsen Brothers Construction.
