R-2 coaching staffs filled

Several coaching holes in track and field, football and boy’s basketball were filled following Monday night’s monthly meeting of the Gasconade County R-2 Board of Education.

Following Nathan Cabot’s hiring as head football coach during last month’s meeting, three assistant football coaches were hired.

Those joining Cabot’s staff this fall include current R-2 Technology Director Casey Fisher, Owensville Middle School paraprofessional Steven Kemp and former Dutchmen assistant football coach Dean Pohlmann.

All three coaches were approved by 7-0 votes with Pohlmann’s approval pending a clear background check.

Additional football coaches on Cabot’s staff lined up for this fall include Dustin Howard and Shane Hunt.

Losing both Kris Altemeyer (OHS Principal) and John Bunch (OHS Assistant Principal) to administrative moves, Dutchmen head basketball coach Todd Rehmert now officially has a full staff of boy’s basketball coaches.

Joining current varsity assistant coach Terra Heidle will be three new hires in

Former Dutchmen basketball player Matt Kramme was hired to coach the freshmen boy’s basketball team along with Hunt for eighth-grade boy’s basketball and 2014 OHS graduate Taylor Payne who will coach the seventh-grade boy’s basketball team. Payne will also be a paraprofessional at OMS.

All three basketball coaches were approved on 7-0 votes.

Two assistant coaches were also hired to join Matt Candrl’s OHS Track and Field staff.

Hired by 7-0 votes were Kelsey Lowe and Rebecca Lorey.

Lowe will teach social studies at OMS while Lorey will teach math at OHS.

Taylor will not be the only Payne in the R-2 coaching ranks as her mom Lori will be Hannah Wehar’s assistant coach on the softball diamond this fall.
