Throwing for the Hastings College Lady Bronco track team this past academic year, Owensville High School Class of 2019 member Bailey Rasmussen will be throwing in a different state with a different mascot during the 2020-21 academic year.

Stocking up on purple apparel, Rasmussen will take her throwing talents back into Missouri to Truman State University (TSU) in Kirksville which is located in the north central part of the state.

“It’ll be nice to be closer to home and for my family to be able to visit and come to my track meets,” Rasmussen said. “That is something I missed in Nebraska.”

Her lone season at Hastings began last winter on December 12 at the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic in Kearney, Neb, on the University of Nebraska - Kearney campus inside Cushing Fieldhouse.

Competing in both the women’s shot put and the weight throw, Rasmussen posted top-20 finishes in both events led by a 13th-place mark of 34 feet, 8.25 inches in the shot put in addition to a 19th-place mark of 36-09.75 in the weight throw.

In her first indoor compeition of 2020, she fouled all three attempts in the shot put only to bounce back with a 25th-place throw of 36-06.25 in the weight throw.

A week later in the Scott Nisely track meet, she placed 26th in the shot put with a throw of 33-10.75 to go along with a 34th-place mark in the weight throw of 37-10.

On Saturday, Jan. 25 at Concordia, Neb, Rasmussen competed in the Concordia Polar Dog meet at Bulldog Fieldhouse in Seward, Neb.

Breaking the 40-foot mark for the first time competing indoors, Rasmussen placed 25th in the weight throw with a mark of 41-00.25.

Six days later at Cushing Fieldhouse on the UNK campus, Rasmussen improved on her personal record in the weight throw.

Just over two feet out of the top 10, Rasmussen posted a 12th-place throw of 41-05 marking her best finish of the indoor season.

Opening February at the Fred Beile Classic in Crete, Neb., Rasmussen finished just inside the top 30 of the women’s weight throw with a 29th-place mark of 38-10.25.

That turned out to be her final competition as a member of the Hastings College Lady Broncos track team.

“I’m very grateful for the experiecne that I had at Hastings,” Rasmussen said. “The school just wasn’t the right fit for me.”
