Record breaking positive COVID-19 case increase, death count this week in Franklin County

Three new COVID-19 deaths and 214 new positive cases were identified by the Franklin County Health Department this week. Seven of those new cases were assigned to the Gerald area. This is the highest weekly increase since the pandemic began.

In the daily report for Sept. 17, the deaths of two men, a 75-year-old from Villa Ridge and an 83-year-old from Washington. On Sept. 21, a third death, that of an 87-year-old woman from St. Clair, was noted.

In the last seven days, five women, ages 43, 53, 62, 63 and 69, were added to the positive cases. Two males, ages 14 and 42, were also listed as positive cases.

These seven join four others who have carried over as positive cases from the week before. This brings the area’s current positive case count to 11.

In the same time period, the state has added 8,779 new cases and an additional 125 deaths.
