A preliminary ruling by the Boone County Medical Examiner’s Office in Columbia indicates human remains recovered from a barrel lodged against the Gasconade city boat ramp were those of an adult male.
“There are no new developments in the case at this point,” said Gasconade County Sheriff John Romanus on Tuesday evening. “We are still waiting on official reports and positive identification of the deceased.”
Romanus issued a statement via Facebook on Friday saying that although they had yet to identify those remains, investigators were “working as diligently as possible to complete this investigation.”
Romanus addressed concerns expressed by families of missing persons “from all over the country” who have contacted his department in person or through their social media page.
“We understand the concerns of the community and the families who are missing loved ones,” the statement reads. “We are dedicated and committed to this investigation for the victim and their family.”
Romanus said his department had received requests for information from families of missing persons from as far away as Ohio. “Several different areas,” he told The Republican last week.
“We are still awaiting an official report from the medical examiner related to the human remains recovered from the Gasconade River on April 12, 2019,” his release continued. “Although preliminary findings indicate the remains are that of an adult male, the identity still remains unknown at this time. Please remember this is an ongoing investigation and details released at this time are limited.”
Those with questions related to the investigation or the identity of the human remains can contact the sheriff’s office at 573-486-2424 or Gasconade County Central Dispatch on their non-emergency number at 573-437-7770.
“We will continue to release information as it becomes available,” the sheriff stated on the department’s social media site.
