Faithful servant of the Lord, Reverend Dr. L. Dean Hempelmann, 82, passed away Aug. 29, 2021.
He was born Feb. 15, 1939, to Ludwig and Katherine Hempelmann, in Malta Bend.
He was united in marriage to Catherine Mary Haake, June 2, 1962.
Dean grew up in Rosebud, and spent his elementary, secondary, college, and seminary education in schools operated by The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS). Rev. Hempelmann was ordained on June 5, 1966, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rosebud. He served God faithfully in the ministry until his final days. Dean was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by Cathy, his best friend of 59 years; son Michael (Melanie); two daughters Cheryl (John) and Lisa (James); eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Life ceremony will be held, Sept. 29, at Faith Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas, where Dean and Cathy are members.
