The annual Rock Island 5K Run, sponsored by the Gerald Area Chamber of Commerce was held in October for the first time. The run, usually scheduled for early May, was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns this year.
29 runners/walkers signed up for the run held last Saturday, Oct. 10. The route for the run winds through the south part of town on the way to City Park where runners round Lake Charles before heading back to Legion Park. Runners this year had the bonus of enjoying the fall foliage in the park as they ran.
Michael Hair of Owensville recorded the fastest time by completing the 5K course in 21 minutes and 30 seconds.
Runners came from as far away as St. Louis, Wildwood, Steelville, Rolla and Montgomery City. Gerald and Owensville were well represented by participants.

After completing the race, entrants were served hot dogs at the Chamber’s historic Depot.
