Ronald “Tubby” VanBooven, 76, Columbia, passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020.
Ron was born Oct. 17, 1944, in Rhineland, Missouri, the son of John and Hilda Pottebaum VanBooven, who preceded him in death. On July 26, 1975, he married Patricia Skeen in Columbia and she survives. Ron proudly served his country in the Army from 1967 until 1968. Ron was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes. He was a barber in Columbia since 1969. He was a faithful follower of Mizzou sports where he volunteered working the scoreboard for football and basketball games. He was a former president of the Tiger Quarterback Club. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, playing and lettering in basketball and baseball at Owensville High School and playing golf with his friends. Most of all, he loved and enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.
Ron is also survived by his children, Cindy (Tim) Jamieson of Columbia and Kevin (Sandy)Thornton of St. Louis; four grandsons, Mickey and Ty Jamieson, Andrew and Nicholas Thornton; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also survived by many friends in the Columbia and Owensville areas.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Marlene Sullentrup and Joan Holt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Lewy Body Dementia Association, c/o Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel, 1610 N. Garth Ave., Columbia, MO 65202.
A celebration of life will be held in early summer 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
