One week removed from splitting a doubleheader with Cuba, Rosebud Post 587’s A baseball team returned to action Thursday at Memorial Field for a Missouri Ninth District doubleheader against Union Post 297’s A squad.

Only able to combine for four runs between both ends of the twin bill, Rosebud suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Union by scores of 15-1 and 11-3.

Falling behind 15-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, Rosebud could only scratch across one run before seeing the game end in five innings.

Unable to contain a hot Union offense was the Post 587 pitching trio of Michael Steinbeck, Reese Rehmert and Eoin Krupp.

In spite of putting the ball in play on numerous occasions, Rosebud Post 587 did not have a hit or a base runner through three complete innings.

That changed in the bottom of the fourth inning with Rosebud trailing Union 8-0.

Will Mentz drew a two-out walk to break up Union’s bid for a perfect game only to be left stranded at first base as the inning came to a close.

With the perfect game gone, Rosebud looked to break up Union’s bid for a no-hitter and a shutout in the bottom of the fifth.

Batting with one out, Trey Johnson singled up the middle breaking up Union Post 297’s bid for a no-hitter.

Reese Rehmert followed with a one-out double putting runners at second and third for Eoin Krupp.

Drawing a walk to load the bases, Krupp now found himself at first base bringing Hunter Boyer to the plate.

In spite of grounding out to second base, Boyer drove in Johnson denying Union’s shutout hopes.

Game two of the twin bill saw Rosebud play as the visiting team while Union was the home team.

Allowing nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Rosebud saw a 3-2 lead disappear before falling 11-3 in the nightcap.

Scoreless through three innings, Rosebud broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the fourth inning.

Eli Wilson walked before taking second on a Will Lauth single.

Rane Rehmert and Connor Lang then walked allowing Wilson to score giving Post 587 a 1-0 lead.

Union answered in the bottom of the fourth with two runs on a hit and three walks.

Three Rosebud hits in the top of the fifth inning helped them get their one-run lead back.

Austin Long led off with a single before taking second on a Mentz single.

Long went on to steal third base and home tying the game at 2-2.

Adding to his walk and run scored the previous inning, Wilson recorded an RBI double driving Mentz in for a 3-2 lead.

Unable to hold on, Rosebud allowed nine runs on three hits, six walks and two hit batters in the bottom of the sixth inning.
