Route A bridge project begins

Two 65-year-old bridges in need of replacement will require the closure of two roadways in Gasconade and Osage counties in the coming months, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

A contractor for MoDOT on Monday began replacing the Gasconade County Route A bridge over Third Creek, south of Mt. Sterling. The bridge will be closed to traffic for up to three months while the work takes place.

Once the Third Creek bridge has been replaced, the Don Schnieders crew will begin replacing the Route D bridge over Mistaken Creek in Osage County, west of Cooper Hill. More information will be available regarding the Mistaken Creek bridge replacement and closure closer to its start date.

The bridges will not be closed at the same time. Motorists will be able to utilize Route D as a detour to Highway 89 into Belle during the replacement of the Third Creek bridge. Both structures are included in Gov. Mike Parson’s $351 million Focus on Bridges program to repair or replace 250 bridges across the state. This work is weather permitting and could be delayed.
