Roy August Koelling Jr., 73, Bay, passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, at his residence.
He was born April 10, 1947, to Roy Allen Sr. and Geneva Louise Melinda (Wolf) Koelling, in Hermann.
He was united in marriage to Carla Schulte, Nov. 1, 1975, at Zion St. Paul United Church of Christ in Bay.
Roy had served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was baptized June 8, 1947, and confirmed April 10, 1960, at Zion United Church of Christ in Bay. He was a member of St. James United Church of Christ-Charlotte, near Drake, where he had served on the board numerous times and was a member of men’s and mixed choirs. He was a member of Bay American Legion for 46 years and a member of Gasconade County Threshers Association. He was a coon and deer hunter, collected antique cars and tractors, loved farming and enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Geneva.
He is survived by wife, Carla, of the home; daughters, Tara Gawer and husband Matt of Sullivan, Crystal Binkholder and husband Dustin of Hermann and Janelle Koelling and friend Max Baker of Asheville, N.C.; grandchildren, Noah, Drake and Brody Gawer and Sophia and Ian Binkholder; sister, Dorothy Jean Gillig and husband Ron of Odessa; brother, Ray Koelling of Morrison; nephew; Jarrod Gillig and wife Jamie of Blue Rapids, Kan.; niece, Dana Gillig of Sedalia; great-nephew, Dakota, and great-niece Kinsley of Blue Rapids, Kan.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 11, at St. James United Church of Christ – Charlotte with Rev. Van Lahmeyer officiating. Burial was in Zion Cemetery in Bay. Memorials requested to St. James United Church of Christ’s Steeple Fund.
