As a young lady, Ruth held down many part-time and summer jobs before graduating from Belle High School in 1945. Ruth taught school at the Bulk Elk country school in the fall of 1945. She worked for Brown Shoe Company for 28 years, retiring in 1991, all while raising her family. Ruth was a lifelong member of the Owensville V.F.W. Post #6133 Ladies Auxiliary.

In her spare time, she loved to quilt, embroider, maintain two gardens, canning fruits and vegetables from those gardens, and becoming locally famous for her dill pickles! She shared all that she created with family and friends all her life.
