Throughout the month of May, John Travolta will have nothing on the hundreds of track and field athletes competing throughout the state of Missouri in district, sectional and state competition.

From a Warden Publishing point of view, Saturday track madness will begin this Saturday with Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) district meets at South Callaway and New Haven High Schools.

Up in Mokane, Vienna and Chamois will compete as part of the MSHSAA Class 1, District 2 Meet. SCHS will also be hosting the MSHSAA Class 2, District 4 meet.

Schools competing alongside Vienna and Chamois include Bunceton, Clopton, Community R-6, Jamestown, Newburg, Pilot Grove, Prairie Home, Richland, Silex, St. Elizabeth, Stoutland, Sturgeon, Tuscumbia and Wellsville-Middletown.

Belle and Linn will also be competing Saturday at New Haven during the MSHSAA Class 2, District 2 meet.

Also competing against the Tigers and Wildcats will be Bishop DuBourg, Bourbon, Brentwood, Calvary Lutheran’s boys, O’Fallon Christian, Duchesne, Elsberry, Louisiana, McKinley Classical Leadership, Steelville, Sumner and Valley Park.

Lutheran North and Principia will also compete in New Haven during the girls district track meet.

Athletes that finish in the top four of both aforementioned districts will compete on Saturday, May 13 during one of four MSHSAA Class 1 and Class 2 Sectional Track Meets to also be hosted by New Haven High School.

Area athletes that record top-four finishes during their sectional meet will qualify for the MSHSAA Class 1-2 State Track and Field Championships scheduled for Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20 at the Dennis and Roberta Licklider track complex inside Adkins Stadium on the campus of Jefferson City High School.

Fresh off competing in the annual Four Rivers Conference (FRC) meet Monday at New Haven, Matt Candrl’s Owensville Dutchmen and Dutchgirl track squads will have about two weeks to prepare for the MSHSAA Class 3, District 5 Track Meet scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at Waynesville High School.

Waynesville will also be hosting the Class 5, District 5 meet as well.

Class 3 schools that will be competing alongside Owensville include Ava, Blair Oaks, Buffalo, Cuba, Fatima, Houston, Liberty (Mountain View), Mountain Grove, Salem, St. James and Willow Springs.

A top-four finish in any event will qualify athletes for one of four MSHSAA Class 3 Sectional track meets scheduled for Saturday, May 20 at West Plains High School.

Along with the list of District 5 schools, Owensville will compete against District 6 schools in Aurora, Cassville, Clever, East Newton, El Dorado Springs, Fair Grove, Hollister, Lamar, Mt. Vernon, Seneca, Springfield Catholic and Strafford during sectional competition.

West Plains will also host a Class 4 Sectional meet that Saturday with Sullivan, St. Clair, Pacific and Union representing the FRC.
