Self-inflicted gunshot cited in Hermann teen’s death

Posted

A Hermann teenager died Sunday at his home in Hermann of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Wesley Joshua Englert, 17, of Hermann, was pronounced dead at 11:47 a.m. May 1 by Gasconade County Coroner Jeff Arnold.

Arnold said the youth died from a single gunshot and said there was nothing suspicious found at the scene Sunday morning to indicate anyone else was involved.

“There were no witnesses,” said Arnold. “He lived with his grandfather. He was 17-years-old and there was no sign or indication of anything going on.”

Arnold said Hermann police are conducting an investigation and had taken possession of the boy’s phone. “We’re unsure why,” the youth took his own life,  Arnold said. “There was nothing suspicious at the scene.”

Arnold was notified of the incident shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday. He said Hermann police were handling the investigation. Hermann Police Chief Marlon Walker was not available on Tuesday for a phone call.
