Senator seeks support for SB 1229

To the Editor:

Your second amendment rights don’t stop at your property line.

We live in a world where liberals call to defund our police and lawlessness runs rampant. Self defense has never been more important. That’s why I have filed Senate Bill 1229 to ensure your rights — and your homes — are protected by state law.

Under this legislation, Missourians would be protected when defending their home from intruders. While this seems like common sense, we’ve seen the media’s ability to twist a story so well that an attacker becomes a victim and vice-versa. I want to make it abundantly clear: in Missouri, we support property owners, not violent criminals.

SB 1229 guarantees that you can use your legal right of gun ownership for self defense. This is exactly what our Forefathers were concerned about when they added the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights. Whether defending from enemies foreign or domestic, SB 1229 reaffirms our rights to life and private property.

When this legislation becomes law, you won’t have to worry about waiting until an intruder is “far enough” into your private property before standing your ground. Bad actors won’t be able to manipulate the law to hurt the very people they were attempting to victimize.

The law is supposed to work for law-abiding citizens, not against them. That’s why I am the proud sponsor of Senate Bill 1229; and that’s why I am calling upon my fellow senators to approve this bill to ensure Missouri remains a safe place to call home.
