While the COVID-19 pandemic has canceled several sporting events throughout mid-Missouri, it could not stop Owensville High School athletic department officials from holding senior night festivities for softball, volleyball, football, cross country, band and football cheerleading in a span of four days.

Welcoming Union’s Lady Wildcats to OHS Field last Tuesday, Hannah (Wehar) Koppelmann’s Owensville Dutchgirl softball team handed UHS a 9-1 loss in the Four Rivers Conference (FRC) opener for both teams.

Making the night more memorable was junior pitcher Addison Wright tossing a no-hitter pitching around two errors and a walk.

Seniors Halie Boyer, Paige Bossaller, Kaitlin Nelson, Gabby Bunners, Alyssa Belloir and Katelyn Landolt all saw playing time on the diamond turf against Union.

Also last Tuesday, Jamie Ridenhour’s Dutchgirl volleyball team welcomed Belle’s Lady Tigers in their senior-night match also with Highway 28 bragging rights on the line.

Overcoming a flat start to the match, Owensville dropped the first set before winning the next three sets and the match 22-25, 25-9, 25-11 and 25-7.

OHS volleyball seniors recognized prior to the varsity match were Emily McKinney, Haley Coello, Cadi Ruth, Grace McFalls and Taylor McClure.

Three night later, Nathan Cabot’s Dutchmen football team looked to make it three senior-night victories in as many games welcoming Cuba’s Wildcats Friday night to Dutchmen Field with Highway 19 gridiron bragging rights on the line.

Handing Cuba their first loss of the season 49-8, Owensville football seniors recognized before the game were TJ Whelan, TC Fisher, Bryor Bogle, Garret West, Luc Guerrero, Weston Davison, Owen Holtzer, Brayden Edwards and Dakota Martin.

Christina Becker and Alisen Chapman were the lone senior football cheerleaders for Raquel Bunton’s squad.

Cross country seniors recognized included Cameron O’Neal, Kate Angell, Isabelle Bruckerhoff, Katie Candrl, Mekayla Gibson, Libby Korman, Jodi Lock and Juliana Watkins.

Senior band members also recognized Friday night were Gage Barnett, Avery Kelley, Connor Lang, Haley Russell, Sydney Silvers, Elijah Waters and Lydia Weaver.
