Several candidates filed for office as the declaration for candidacy opened yesterday, Dec. 15, at 8 a.m.

City Clerk Be Ahring reports that Annette Justus, 616 S. Cedar, was the first to file for city office. She filed her intent to run as a candidate for mayor in Gerald in the April 6 General Election.

In addition to the mayoral seat, the city also will also elect a new alderman in both Wards 1 and 2. All three are for two-terms. There were no other filers on Tuesday.

The three-man Gerald-Rosebud Fire Protection District also has a seat to be filled.

Nick Grube, incumbent, filed his intentions Tuesday morning to run for another six-year term.

The Gerald Area Ambulance District needs two new directors. Sub-District 2 covers the city of Gerald. Gary Koepke currently serves as that district’s director.

The term of the director for Sub-District 5 is also up. Diane Angell currently fills the seat which covers south of Gerald. Amanda Miles, 9208 Droeste Rd, Gerald, filed for the seat Tuesday afternoon.

According to Diane Meyer, district chief, no one had filed for either position at the close of filing Tuesday.
