Sheriff Romanus set to resign

Posted

Gasconade County Sheriff John Romanus has submitted his resignation that will take effect Monday, March 23.

His letter of resignation to the Gasconade County Commission reads as follows:

"With much deliberation and consideration, I have accepted a position that I feel will be extremely beneficial to my family.  This was an opportunity that I was not seeking, however, it was presented to me.  I fully anticipated completing my term as your Sheriff.  However, I am not able to dedicate my entire time to Gasconade County and work my new position as well.  I feel it would be in the best interest of the citizens to have someone serving as their Sheriff who can dedicate their entire time to the Office of Sheriff, as I was able to do.  The demands of this position are something that the general public is unaware of, and are more demanding than any position I have ever held before.
Serving as your Sheriff has been one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had.  I feel like we have accomplished a lot together, and there is still a lot of improvements to be made.  It has been a pleasure working with the other elected officials who have went above and beyond to assist my office.  I will continue to make myself available for the incoming Sheriff to the best of my ability to help with the transition.  I will do my best to make sure that the citizens of Gasconade County do not go without law enforcement coverage.
Therefore, I will be giving you my notice that effective March 23, 2020 I will be resigning as your Sheriff.
I would like to thank my supporters and the citizens of Gasconade County for giving me this opportunity to serve as your Sheriff.
Respectfully,
Sheriff John Romanus"
