Six Diamond Dutchmen earn postseason nods

In spite of their season ending in the district semifinals, Tyler Ahring’s Owensville Dutchmen baseball team had six players earn postseason recognition at the conference and district levels.

Following voting from the baseball coaches in the Four Rivers Conference (FRC), four diamond Dutchmen were selected to the All-FRC First Team.

Senior Bryor Bogle was one of five players unanimously selected to the All-FRC First Team.

Playing in all 26 games for the 18-8 Dutchmen, Bogle led the team with 32 hits, 25 singles, 27 runs scored and a .364 batting average.

“Bryor was our all around best player this year,” Ahring said.

He was also tied for the team lead in runs batted in (RBI) with 20 alongside Dutchmen teammate Gavin Loague.

A threat to run anytime he was on the base paths, Bogle led the team with 30 stolen bases while only being caught just once.

Bogle also impacted the team on the pitching rubber.

Throwing a team-high 47.1 innings, he also started a team-high nine games in addition to leading the team with 60 strikeouts.

He also recorded a team-low 1.479 earned-run average (ERA).

“He was extremely competitive at the plate, elite on the base paths, a solid fielder at shortstop and one of our top pitchers this season,” Ahring said.

Junior Derek Brandt was one of three pitchers named to the All-FRC First Team for Owensville.

At the plate, Brandt was one of four Dutchmen to record a triple during the season along with Ethan Reed, Garret West and TC Fisher.

Brandt also tied for fourth on the team with five doubles.

Brandt did the majority of his damage from the pitching mound.

In eight starts and 38 innings of pitching, Brandt recorded a team-high five wins in addition to a team-low 1.263 whip.

Whip is calculated by adding walks and hits before diving them by the number of innings pitched.

“Derek was our ace on the mound this season,” Ahring said. “He threw multiple complete games including an eight-inning extra-inning game against Potosi.”

Senior Garret West was also one of three outfielders selected to the All-FRC First Team for Ahring’s Dutchmen.

At the plate, West was second on the team with 25 hits in addition to tying for second with seven doubles alongside Bogle.

“Garret was one of our most consistent players all season long,” Ahring said. “He swung a good bat, played good defense and pitched well for us all year.”

West also saw significant time on the pitching mound pitching 25 innings and racking up four wins.

His win total was second on the team to Brandt’s five.

“He offered us a lefty on the mound that could pitch both as a starter and in relief,” Ahring said. “He was a very valuable part of our team.”

Rounding out the foursome of All-FRC baseball Dutchmen is junior Gavin Loague.

Moving back to Missouri from the state of Florida, Loague made the most of it from the hot corner at third base.

Also playing in all 26 games, Loague was a hitting machine at the plate.

Tied for the team lead with 20 RBIs, Loague led the Dutchmen with eight doubles, three home runs and 15 walks.

He also had a team-high .484 on-base percentage in addition to a .577 slugging percentage giving him a 1.061 ops (on-base plus slugging percentage).

Picking up two wins and two saves from the pitching rubber, Loague made himself a threat at the plate and in the field.

“Gavin was a fantastic addition to our team,” Ahring said. “He was our three-hole hitter and he handled the role exceptionally well.”

Earning All-District honors from the Class 4, District 9 Tournament were TC Fisher and Michael Steinbeck.

Fisher’s lone triple of the season came in districts and it happened to clear the bases tying the game against Salem.

“TC is a guy that has worked hard his entire high school career,” Ahring said.

Steinbeck went 2-3 against Salem with a single, double, walk and a RBI.

“Michael was one of our best hitters all season long,” Ahring said. “He hit for a good average and had a lot of extra-base hits to go with it.
