Todd Rehmert’s Owensville Dutchmen basketball team looked to kill two birds with one stone Friday night hosting St. Clair’s Bulldogs.
Looking to end 2019 on a winning note, OHS was also going for a win to open Four Rivers Conference (FRC) play.
Trailing by just one point at halftime, Owensville picked the wrong time to go cold on offense at the start of the second half.
Seeing St. Clair go on an 18-5 run in the third quarter, Rehmert’s Dutchmen could not catch up before dropping a 43-28 decision to the Bulldogs putting their record at 2-5 going into the 2020 portion of their season.
“We were right there in the first half,” Rehmert said. “We just picked the wrong time to go cold on offense in the third quarter. Credit St. Clair for hitting their shots and forcing us out of our game in the second half.”
Down 9-5 after one quarter, Tyler Heidbrink carried OHS in the second quarter scoring seven of his team-high 11 points right before halftime.
Cason Gray and Trevor Abernathy followed with four points each in addition to three from Justin Garner.
Boyde Nicks, Austin Terry and Bryor Bogle all had two points in the fourth quarter for the Dutchmen.
Justin Hoffman led St. Clair and all scorers with a game-high 17 points scoring 12 of them in the second half.
Falling 35-34 on a 3-point shot at the buzzer by St. Clair’s Austin Dunn, Terra Heidle’s Owensville JV Dutchmen were paced by Bryce Payne’s game-high 16 points.
