Gerald Police Chief Jim Helton reports that around midnight, Oct. 19, several vehicles were tampered with near Certified Repair on W. Fifth St. Helton said it appeared an attempt was made to drill out the ignition of the vehicles in order to start them without a key. The attempts were apparently unsuccessful since no vehicles were missing.
Two other vehicles were stolen. One was parked just off Fitzgerald Ave. and the other on W. Springfield Ave. Neither vehicle has been recovered.
Several storage units in town have been burglarized. The thieves cut the locks off the door, then enter the units and remove items.
Helton noted that similar crimes have occurred throughout the area over the last few months.
The GPD continues to investigate the crimes.
