Sunday storm knocks out power, knocks down branches

A storm blew through Gerald Sunday afternoon. Heavy winds knocked down tree branches throughout town and pulled down one power line.

The power line came down along Sixth Street, between Main and Pine streets. Gerald police and members of the Gerald-Rosebud Fire Department quickly arrived on the scene to block the street off from traffic.

Crews from Ameren arrived soon after, but residents south and west of the downed line were without power for several hours. Residents in other areas reported lights flickering off and on several times during the storm.

Police Chief Jim Helton says his department did not receive any other reports of damage from the storm. There was no thunderstorm warning received from the National Weather Service by his department for Sunday’s sudden storm.

In addition to the winds, heavy rain fell for a short period. The rain was much needed in the Gerald area.

Midday Tuesday, another rain shower moved through town, this time minus the heavy winds and thunder.
