Support for small cemeteries

Posted

As we get close to Memorial Day, we remember our loved ones who have passed away, often honoring them by placing flowers or decoration on their graves. The big cemeteries are manicured, beautiful and park like.

All over our county, though, are small cemeteries no longer connected to a church or supported by perpetual care.  Some of these cemeteries are in a state of disrepair, but others are kept up by volunteers and families of the deceased buried there.  These volunteers give of their time and energy, but where does the money come from for mowing and general repairs?  Usually from an occasional burial and/or memorial, but they are few.

If you have loved ones that lie in rest in one of these small cemeteries, may I make a suggestion? Why not give a monetary donation to that cemetery. It is a wonderful way to show respect and honor your family member(s).
