Sylvester Elmer Dietrich, 80, New Haven, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur.
He was born April 8, 1940, to Sylvester C. and Adele R. (Faerber) Dietrich, in St. Louis.
He was united in marriage to Shirley Mae Panhorst, Oct. 8, 1960, at the Lutheran Church in New Haven.
Sylvester enjoyed wood carving and was a collector of everything. He enjoyed nature and spending time outdoors which led to his love of science as he was a herpetologist. He was a member of the St. Louis Herpetologist Society.
He was preceded in death by parents, Sylvester and Adele.
He is survived by wife, Shirley, of New Haven; sons, John Dietrich and wife Pat of Boliver, Thomas Dietrich and wife Sheila of Beaufort and Nicky Dietrich and girlfriend Robin of Owensville; daughters, Linda Moeckli and husband Clayton of New Haven and Tina Fudge and Mikel of Owensville; brother, Donnie Dietrich and wife Diane of St. Louis; sisters, Eileen Wessling and husband Todd of St. Louis and Mary Cross and husband Dave of St. Louis; and 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
His body was cremated and no services are planned at this time.
