The frontline of democracy

Posted

Dear Editor:
I would like to take a moment to recognize an unsung faction of our public servants who work 13+ hours, face health-care risks and uncertain clientele. I’m talking about election officials.
These citizens love their community, believe in the democratic process and the neighbors/friends whose faces reinforce their sense of purpose.
My mother, Mary Jane Schoening, served as a polling judge for many years in the Boulware precinct. She did so because of the same beliefs mentioned above.
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, as I entered that same precinct, I was met with a sense of community, friendship and pride in our democratic process.
These public servants are the backbone of all communities and I wish to extend a deep sense of gratitude to them.
Thank you poll workers!
