A fight over a bag of hash browns Monday morning led to multiple gunshots being fired at a residence on Osage County Road 742 near Bland, but fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Gerard K. Barron, 27, of Bland, however, was arrested and has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

Osage County Sheriff’s deputy Jesse Henson in his report noted he was dispatched at 9:38 a.m. to a report of shots fired, and identified Barron as the shooter, and his girlfriend as Amy N. Koenig, 24.

Barron told Henson that he had retrieved a few items for breakfast from a freezer outside their camper, and said that Koenig threw a bag of hash browns through the door. After the bag hit his leg, Barron said he picked it up and threw it back at her.

Things escalated quickly, as the two first argued about picking up the bag, and then after Barron broke out a window in the camper, they began shoving each other.

According to Henson’s report, Barron said he became angry and stressed, and to release that anger and stress, he grabbed his handgun and fired multiple rounds from the front porch.

Koenig reportedly corroborated the chain of events, and said she was fearful for her safety, and for that of her juvenile child.

Henson noted that Barron was allowed to speak to his mother by phone, and he told her that Koenig needed to be evicted before he returned or “one of them was going to end up hurt or in jail permanently.”

Barron was transported to the county jail, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold pending the filing of formal charges. The weapons charge came a bond set at $20,000.
