Tommy D. Thompson, 65 of Bland, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.

He was born Dec. 19, 1957, in Washington, a son to the late Russell “Tom” Thompson and Vera (Jett) Thompson. She survives at her home in Bland.

He was a lifelong area resident and a 1976 graduate of Bland High School.

Tommy was a welder at ABB in Jefferson City for 46 years.

He was a member of Bland Baptist Church.

Tommy enjoyed barbecuing and entered many area contests over the years winning over 100 trophies. His pulled pork and ribs were excellent. In his younger years, he played on several softball teams and always enjoyed hunting and spending time with his friends and family especially his grandchildren.

Tommy was a good hearted man with a calm demeanor who liked to take life in stride. He will be missed greatly by his friends, family, and his dog, Ruby.

He was preceded in death by father, Tom; and daughter, Kelley Thompson.

Tommy is survived by mother, Vera; spouse, Debbie Yeokum of Bland; children, Jamie Struemph and husband Jarret, Mitchell Thompson and wife Keisha, T.C. Thompson and wife June, Tommi Campbell and husband Tyler all of Belle, and Brandy McDonald of Columbia; grandchildren, Brayden, Riley, Adalynn, Jaseton, Dru, Shane, Ellie, Vivienne, Lainey, Tatyn, and Amy; brother, Rod Thompson and wife Brenda of Bland; nephew, Dane and wife Brooke; niece, Brooke and husband Taylor; and beloved dog, Ruby; along with many family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2–4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, at Sassmann’s Chapel in Bland.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the YaYa’s.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Victor Phillips and staff, Dr. Diane Light and staff, Patty Bexten and Lenzie Woodling, Capital Region Home Health, for their excellent care of Tommy throughout his illness.
