Sweeping Linn in three sets last Monday to close the month of August, Jamie Ridenhour’s Owensville Dutchgirl volleyball squads hit the road Thursday night into Jefferson City to take on the Capital City Lady Cavaliers.

Seeing their freshmen and junior varsity counterpart have mixed results, Ridenhour’s Dutchgirl varsity volleyball team looked to keep their record unblemished.

Owensville won the match in three sets (25-15, 25-10 and 25-14) for their second victory in as many matches.

Senior Grace McFalls paced the Dutchgirl attack with seven kills followed by five each from Emily McKinney, Haley Coello and Josie Gerlemann.

In the ace department, McKinney and McFalls both served up three aces.

Cadi Ruth followed closely behind with two aces against Capital City.

Adding to her five kills, Gerlemann added a team-high six blocks followed closely with five from McKinney.

Showing the way in aces, McKinney (20) and McFalls (16) also led the team in digs against the Lady Cavaliers.

Kyla Hendrix and Taylor McClure both dished out a team-high 11 assists against Capital City. Keira Hendrix also had three assists against the Lady Cavaliers.

Misti Rutledge’s JV Dutchgirls fell to 1-1 on the season dropping their match in two sets to Capital City 25-23 and 25-22.

Opening the night of volleyball, freshman coach Taylor Payne saw her Dutchgirls defeat the Lady Cavalier freshmen in two sets, 25-14 and 25-15.

After hosting Belle for senior night last night (Tuesday), Owensville’s varsity Dutchgirls will compete in tournament action Saturday at Jefferson City High School.

This tournament takes the place of the Fulton Tournament which was recently canceled.

All three squads will return to action next Monday hosting Washington’s Lady Blue Jays with the freshmen match starting at 5 p.m.
