Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6133 in Owensville held its first Patriot’s Day carry-in dinner on Sunday to honor the men and women who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 during the fall of the World Trade Center towers.
Post Chaplain Nick Baxter spoke during the ceremony.
“We salute the 2,977 dead,” Baxter said.
Auxiliary President Tina Medlock helped serve the carry-in dinner following the services. Medlock said it is imperative that people remember the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001.
“If those of us who remember don’t teach it, who will?” She asked. “Today’s events are tomorrow’s history.”
Nearly 60 community members, including Post members and Boy Scouts.
“We represent a community of 10,000 people and this is the representation we have at a 9/11 ceremony,” Baxter said after the service. “I hope to God it improves.”
The VFW will be making the Patriot’s Day carry-in dinner an annual event.
