Wag the dog, you say?

To the Editor:

The recent Guest Commentary by the Gasconade County Democratic Club inspired a few contrary thoughts in my mind and I thought I would share them.

First: The Trump quote from 2011 was made about President George H.W. Bush, not Obama. Probably it was made when Trump was a Democrat.

Second: We cheered when Bin Laden was killed, we cheered when Sadam Hussain was captured and killed. We cheered when the Arab Spring eliminated some brutal dictators although that did not work out so well at Bengazi when we abandoned our people.

So why not cheer the death of Soleimani, a known terrorist who was undermining the stability of the Mideast. True, a less able replacement was found but he will be hesitant to be as active as Soleimani and will probably stay in Iran.

We have been at war with Iran ever since they invaded American soil, our embassy, and took American hostages. True, that Reagan got the hostages released, but that did not correct the underlying problem of animosity to the United States.

Iran has been poking a stick in our eye ever since even while talking and negotiating some one-sided treaties. Their main negotiating power over the United States was control of the oil supply routes and the ability to shut off world oil supplies.

This power has ended when the U.S. became the largest energy producer in the world.

The death of Soliemani was a notification that their support of terrorism must end and their limited response showed they understood. There may still be some retaliation but it will be dealt with quickly.

The Iranian Nuclear Deal was one-sided and unenforceable. Iran got everything they wanted in exchange for empty promises which they did not intend to keep. Since then there has been little compliance on Iran’s side.

Their nuclear capacity is increasing.

No one has ever explained why Obama shipped billions of cash money on pallets to Tehran in the middle of the night. That money has been funding terrorism throughout the world.

Trump has been hampered in implementing his policy by a House only interested in impeachment and has spent almost three years looking for some high crime that isn’t there, wasting taxpayer money.

Hate is a self-destroying thing.

Many news articles I read talk of corruption in Ukraine involving the Bidens. Running for public office does not shield anyone from investigation and prosecution for misdeeds in or out of office.
