A New Adventure

What we tolerate will increase

Posted

If you’ve ever welcomed a new puppy into your house you can relate. This new addition to the family needs to be house trained. On the other hand, if you tolerate the puppy’s accidents on your floor he will not learn that this is unacceptable, and your house will become a stinking mess.

We have similar lessons to pass on to our children. It is our responsibility, as parents, to teach them how to behave in public, how to clean up after themselves, and how to become responsible members of society.

Many of us know or have at least heard about parents, who do not control their children. They allow them free reign both inside their homes and in public.

They spoil their offspring believing he/she can do nothing wrong. When they are disciplined at school they make excuses and blame the teachers. When, as a teenager, they wreck the “convertible Mustang” they were given on their 16th birthday, another one is purchased for them.

When parents don’t teach their children how to behave — and if they don’t learn this lesson from someone else, or by themselves — then it falls to society.

Those that cannot — or will not — control themselves will find the government taking on the role of disciplinarian in the form of the justice system.

Currently, we have some mayors and governors who don’t seem to understand this.

For the last month groups of far-left radical Democrats have been unable to control themselves. They have been looting and destroying businesses — many of them black and minority-owned.

They then moved on to destroying monuments of Confederate generals. Next targeted for destruction were statues of U.S. presidents including Andrew Jackson, Ulysses Grant and George Washington.

Just when you thought it could not get worse, over the weekend a man was arrested in Montana for toppling a monument of the Ten Commandments.

Next, they will be targeting statues of Jesus.

Far-left activist Shaun King said all images depicting Jesus as a “white European” should be torn down because they are a form of “white supremacy.”

The church itself won’t be far behind.

In San Francisco Democrat protesters pulled down a statue of Junipero Serra — an 18th century Roman Catholic priest — in Golden Gate Park.

Also torn down in a San Francisco park was a statue of Francis Scott Key.

In Madison, Wis. demonstrators toppled a statue of prominent abolitionist and Union Army Col. Hans Christian Heg.

All of this has been increasing because it is being tolerated.

Too many politicians have decided it’s okay to tolerate lawless behavior, hoping it will go away. Maybe they believe that these radicals in the Democrat party, like spoiled children, will eventually get tired and go home.

Also, it’s hard to ask the police to stop vandalism on one day when the day before some of these same leaders were part of the defund the police movement.

After violent protests by white supremacists led to a death in Charlottesville in 2017, it was condemned by President Donald Trump.

Republicans routinely denounce the far-right white supremacy movement, while, in my opinion, the Democrat party is embracing the radical left.

Joe Biden is trying to stay away from it all, hiding from questions and refusing to condemn the toppling of public statues by his supporters.

It was not that long ago when the national news organizations were reporting Islamic terrorists deliberately destroying historical artifacts and historical religious buildings. Can we now place these far-left radicals on the same level?

I hope that those in our area who vote Democrat are also repulsed by this behavior. If they are, they are remaining silent.

Ronald Reagan began as a registered Democrat. He often said, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The party left me.”

I wonder if the party has moved so far left that it is leaving another generation of voters behind?

By letting mobs run wild and destroy statues we are truly becoming a lawless society. A lawless society mostly in Democrat-controlled cities and states.

Remember, any behavior we tolerate as a society will not decrease, it will multiply. And we will all have to pay the price of cleaning up the stinking mess.
