Arianna Trentmann, Rylan Price, Jillian Pauk, and Madison Fitzgerald (above) all had their artwork selected to be on display in the Capitol’s rotunda in Jefferson City this month. The Young Artist’s Month was to have culminated with a ceremony Monday at the capitol, but was cancelled due to COVID-19 safety precautions. Instead, the four Gerald Elementary School students were recognized during an assembly at their school Monday. Art teacher Jessie Bayless traveled to the capitol to retrieve their artwork and certificates before the exhibit was taken down. Bayless herself will miss receiving her own award as the MAEA Elementary Art Educator of the Year. The ceremony was to be held at the Renaissance Hotel in St. Louis, but has also been cancelled.
